One of my favorite parts of real estate is design. I have a background in interior design and I actually do the design work for every home I sell. It’s such a joy to help clients not only prepare their home for the market, but also see its true potential. And even if you’re not looking to sell but are planning some updates, I’m always happy to offer advice and suggestions!
If you’re thinking about refreshing your home in 2026, the kitchen is where the biggest shifts are happening. After years of stark white spaces, homeowners are leaning into warmth, texture, and natural materials.
Cabinets are moving toward creamy tones colors like Benjamin Moore- Simply White and Sherwin Williams- Accessible Beige. They’re softer than bright white and instantly warm up a space. Painting cabinets is still the easiest and most affordable update, while mid-tone wood cabinetry is returning for those who want a more high end, natural look. Even a wood island paired with painted cabinets can completely change the vibe of a kitchen.
Countertop hutches are another trend I love. They’re equal parts beauty and function, offering a mix of open and closed storage while cleverly hiding appliances. On the surface side, bold veining in counters and backsplashes continues to shine, while Zellige tiles have officially taken the crown from subway tile. Their handmade look and soft variations add warmth and character that feels custom. Pair them with mid tone waterproof wood floors and you’ll have a seamless, welcoming main level.

Color is also shifting in a softer direction. Greens from sage to smoky jade remain strong, and paint companies agree that nature inspired hues are the new neutrals. Dutch Boy’s- Melodious Ivory, Behr’s- Hidden Gem, and Valspar’s- Warm Eucalyptus are leading the way. And if you want a white that always feels inviting, my personal favorite is still Sherwin Williams Alabaster, it’s a classic for a reason!
Finally, a few subtle details are making a big difference in 2026: dark wood islands are in while two toned kitchens are on their way out, and arched doorways are popping up everywhere, adding instant charm. My personal favorite in a home is an arched doorway!
The overall vibe for 2026? Cozy elegance. Creamy tones, natural finishes, and timeless details that make your kitchen warm, fresh, and functional without being fussy.
And if you’re thinking about remodeling before selling or just curious which updates buyers love most here in East Bay, let’s chat. Whether it’s helping you prep a home for market or simply picking the right cabinet color, I’d love to bring both my real estate and design expertise to the table!
